Meaning:
Its source is a Choctaw expression meaning "Jumping water."
Narrative:
Some derive this name from a Gaelic original meaning ''fruitful woman.'' However, there are strong arguments for the American derivation, given that the great popularizer of the name, actress Tallulah Bankhead (1903-1968), was raised in the American South not far from Georgia's Tallulah Falls. Also, the name had been in her family for a while; she was named after her paternal grandmother.
